New On The Forums- Introduction To CAN!

Skip's picture

A major benefit to joining CAN are the members-only forums where various issues of Community Acupuncture are discussed. Marketing, Techniques, Nuts and Bolts of setting up a practice, Philosophy- all of that and more are discussed.

Lately though the forums have become a bit intimidating for new members to find the info that they want and need. To answer that concern we have set up a new sub forum- Introduction To CAN. Its located in the forums page, right below the Announcements sub forum and its designed to get new members oriented to the forums, and get older members answers to questions they have. Specifically the sub-forum has three threads:

1) Community Acupuncture in Four Parts, written and compiled by Ann Mongeau. This is a must read for anyone interested in Community Acupuncture as it contains answers to all sorts of questions about setting up and running practices.

2) Two threads contain downloads for CAN members to download and use- a CAN poster and a CAN logo, both for display in your clinics.

Again, these tools are for members only. Enjoy!

Re: New On The Forums- Introduction To CAN!

And huge, huge, HUGE thanks to Ann for putting together "CAN 101" -- an organized presentation of the information on the practitioner forums that most people need, want, and ask about. This project was languishing on my to-do list when Ann appeared like an angel and graciously completed it! Miracles do happen, I'm here to tell you. And" CAN 101" is great. For anyone who is still wondering -- but where do I find that post about business plans? Go to the Intro to CAN forum and experience Ann's magic for yourself.

Re: New On The Forums- Introduction To CAN!

i must say the forums are DEFINITELY worth signing up for, might i even say necessary. for CAN interested practitioners and even non-CAN practitioners there is so much helpful info and insight openly available here that you won't find other places or from other practitioners.i just registered a few weeks ago after checking out this blog for a while and am still trying to make my way through all the older posts. inspiring stuff, truly. as a student it is so nice to be able to check out some of the insights and hurdles other practitioners have gone over so that when we get out in to the world we have a nice head start. this idea also really inspired me to DEAL with the shortcomings of my school and the whole school system itself.it is very easy to just keep your head down, jump through the hoops and get through school. but imagine if the students before you had carved out the road a little more for you? it then becomes just as much a responsibility for you to do the same for those to follow. even if we can't change the past, we can decide how we act now in the present and prepare for the future. it's fairly apparent that for our profession to survive and evolve we HAVE to be doing this as a community, as well as to become part of the larger community outside the TCM ghetto. i think in a lot of ways this is what the spirit of CAN is about and its amazing. rock n roll.

Thanks, Lisa and Skip. I hope it's helpful.

Re: New On The Forums- Introduction To CAN!

Helpful really isn't the word...

CAN 101 is brilliant.

Thanks so much for your hard work - everyone.

As an aside, I wanted to quickly pass on this story - hopefully highlighting how exceptional the humility, transparency and generosity that Lisa, Skip, Lupine and other CAN'ers have/continue to show on a daily basis is.

A colleague who is endeavoring to set up an acute care for the elderly unit (ACE) at a local hospital, recently came across another biz model that puts a twist on the ACE unit. This biz model was apparently developed by a particular person whose name remains closely associated with it. In fact, ANYTIME one of these biz models (whose goal is ultimately to care for the elderly in a hospital setting) is developed, it is required for the new developers to 1) Openly state that it is the (insert original developer's name here) model of care, and 2) pay LOTS of money to the said original developer in order to learn/adopt the biz model. I hope this is clear.

This is the equivalent of WCA demanding that anytime a CA opens, they be mentioned with any press/marketing materials AND a sum of dough be handed over to them before the 'education/approval' of your CAP is officially made.

Not only is this not the case - of course - with WCA, now CAN, but just the opposite. Any information we may need as aspiring CAN'ers is ripe for the pickin'.

...Thanks Creators of CAN, for proving yet again to be outstanding human beings first and foremost.

Re: New On The Forums- Introduction To CAN!

I add my voice to the chorus in thanking Ann, Lupine et al for CA 101, the CAN logo, and the CAN poster.
Very helpful, indeed.
