Clinic Update, First Profit!

Hello All

It only takes a moment...

Babies & dogs; what can we learn from them? To live in the moment.  It’s a hard thing to do, living only moment to moment and being fully present. I am learning, as a new mom, that you have to be present and in the moment because there isn’t time to be anywhere else.  I am also learning how important it is to embrace and appreciate each second of every day because as we all know, life can change in an instant.  And so....

Clinic Relocation Update

Melonie Burgess's picture

With a 7 week old baby, I hardly have time to shower much less blog!  But I wanted to check in and update everyone on our new clinic.  My husband and I had Inner Source CA in Bradenton, FL.  We relocated to Sarasota, FL and joined forces with 2 colleagues (for more flexibility with the baby).

We have 1 community room with 6 La Fuma recliners, a library, reception, 2 areas for tables and a back area for our stuff.  pic number 9

Our new clinic is Sarasota CA.  We had a "mini" grand opening on June 28th.  We offered refreshments and free treatments.  We sent out mailers to all of our patients and spread the word.  We had about 75 people come through, and about 25 treatments.  People made donations and it was a success. Now we are working on other marketing and such.

Greetings from the delinquent blogger

I haven't blogged in a while...so much has happened in my life, so here's the update.  We had our baby at home on May 23rd at 11:16 pm.  A baby boy, 8 lbs 13 oz, 20 inches long.  His name is Kierdin.  So, needless to say, I have been a little preoccupied adjusting to parenthood.

Gene & I also are moving our clinic (Inner Source CA, Bradenton, FL) to Sarasota, FL this month.  We are joining forces with some colleagues and forming a new business (Sarasota Community Acupuncture).  We are hoping it will give us more flexibility as parents for shifts and it will cut costs a little.  Also, more flexibility for patients with 4 practitioners.  Our business did okay in Bradenton, but we feel we will do better in Sarasota.  It's bigger and has a little more going on.

So I will give updates and photos as they come..gotta run as I am now a full time milk maker!!

Exchange self with others

This week I am the patient.  Here's the story.  For those of you who don't know me, I am 35 weeks pregnant and in the final stretch (no pun intended).  This pregnancy has been great for me and still at this stage I was feeling great physically.  A couple days ago I was treating a patient and put myself in a strange position that I shouldn't have been in, and when I got up I realized I had this nasty little twinge in my right SI joint.  I thought it would pass-it didn't.  By the next day I was no longer walking so well. So, what to do?  Well I guess I needed some acupuncture!

Money does not equal wealth

A former classmate called me the other day raving about a clinic she had visited.  This clinic belongs to one of our former teachers.  Anyway, she went on telling me how busy he was and that while she was there, one of his patients left the office after paying a $280.00 bill for one visit.  (Now, keep in mind that she always refers to what I do as "that community thing".)  She thought it was so great that he was making so much money, charging for injection therapy (a big thing here in Florida), herbs and a visit.  "Well, isn't that awesome?" she asked me. Hmmm...
