CA office -- work in progress

Oasis Community Acupuncture in Newark, CA has been open just over a year and until the last few days, the main treatment room was the smaller back room. The larger front open area was much noisier, since it faces a busy street.

Two For the Wall

I have been toting these poems around for years.  I recently found them and typed them up so I could put them on the wall in the clinic.  I hope you enjoy them.

How Linus Lost his Blanket

linus' blankieI had plans for a creative spin on the Charlie Brown character for this blog, but it's going to be short'n sweet.  I haven't time for much else right now. I axed my massage table last month.

Tweaking Clinic Systems

annmongeau's picture

I am finding that while I started out with the basics of the IR, chairs, charts, etc. the fine details of my work routine and even clinic lay out are constantly being tweaked. My overall goal is better service to patients.

I am curious which clinics out there presently have some form of office office staff, administrators, front desk volunteers or any sort of real live people helping the acupuncturists pull off this thing called CA?

The Seven Habits of Highly Attractive Community Acupunks

1.  Don't obsessively check your email during your shift.  This is especially true if you are in the middle of some kind of custody battle and you are looking for emails from lawyers or soon to be ex-spouses.  You are just asking for trouble.  You know the chances of good news are slim.  Keep your bad mood where it belongs:  at home, not at the clinic.  Before you know it you will find

I wonder how many of us know about the grassroots struggles of
Certified Professional Midwives in the country, or exactly who a CPM
is, and what they do. In terms of what CPMs provide to whom, and their
having to battle against an industry establishment who ought to be
championing them, the parallels to community acupuncture are pretty

What People Like About Community Acupuncture (and what they wish could be different...)

Justine's picture

Maybe this information comes as no surprise to all of us who already practice, but I thought it would be nice to share it anyways.  Although these responses reflect the feedback of my own patients at my own clinic, I do think some of the comments do pertain well to community acupuncture in general, and may be helpful to others just in regards to having more ideas on how to do things in their

Rumi-nating...

keithananda's picture

Years ago, one of my dearest friends introduced me to the ecstatic poetry of Rumi, Mirabai, Hafiz, and others. "Essential Rumi" was one of two books (the other being a lonely planet guide) that I carried with me to India when I stepped out of my comfort zones and travelled there for the better half of a year, seemingly a lifetime ago.

Relaxation, Response.

Several things I’ve heard in the past week have made me want to piggyback on what Moses says in the previous post.  The first was that in conversation with another (non-CA) acupuncturist chum, he said in part, regarding NADA: “anyone can induce a relaxation response with acupuncture.”
